MediumThe hero has no call to action of its own

What comes back

A real review we ran on posthog.com. Every finding is marked on the screenshot where we saw it, with the fix.

73/ 100

This is one of the few developer-tool homepages with a voice of its own. What lets it down is too much at once: three ways to navigate, a new saturated colour on every tab, highlighter marks on the copy and a cookie banner with a cut-out politician, all fighting the one orange button.

Captured in a real browser at 1440 and 390 wide.

PostHog's homepage on a phone: the cookie banner, ringed, covers the bottom of the Get started button.
Phone, first viewport

The cookie banner covers the main button on phone

High

Fix. On phone, shrink the banner to a single line pinned under 60px tall, or show it only after the first scroll.

PostHog's desktop headline, “Your product's context layer”, ringed.
Desktop, first viewport

The headline is jargon, and the subhead does its job

High

Fix. Make the headline the concrete promise, for example ‘Analytics, replays and errors your agents can query’, and drop the highlight box.

PostHog's desktop icons on the grass wallpaper; the white Docs label, ringed, is hard to read.
Desktop, first viewport

White icon labels are faint on the light grass

Medium

Fix. Put a small dark translucent pill behind each label (rgba(0,0,0,.35), 4px radius, as macOS does), or darken and blur the wallpaper behind the two icon columns.

The full report has 10 findings, the order to do them in, and the numbers behind the score.

How it works

  1. Your page is measured, not guessed at

It loads in a real browser at phone and desktop widths. We capture it and measure type sizes, line lengths, contrast, tap targets, load time and layout shift.

  2. It is reviewed against a working designer's method

Hierarchy, typography, colour, spacing, responsive layout, accessibility, speed and the words on the page. The same checklist Ben uses on client work, not a generic prompt.

  3. A person signs it

A designer reads every paid report before it ships, removes anything the machine got wrong, and writes each fix as a design decision. Their name is on the score.

What it costs

Start free. Pay for the report if the free score earns it. Pay for the fix if you'd rather not do it yourself. The fix is not a redesign: it's the five changes that matter most, made on the site you already have. All four options.

Why a person signs it

Most audit tools give you a list. Lists don't say what matters first, and a model on its own gets a third of it wrong because it can't see what a designer sees. Every signed report is read by a working product designer, who takes out what's wrong, puts the findings in the order that matters, and puts their name on the score.

If you want the fixes done, the designer who found them makes them, and the page is re-scored afterwards so you can see the difference.

Questions

My site is on Wix, Squarespace or Shopify. Does this still work?

Yes. The review looks at what visitors see, not how it was built. For the fixed-for-you tier, most fixes are copy, layout and style changes those platforms allow. If something can't be changed on your platform, the report says so instead of pretending.

Is the free score written by a person?

No. The free score is automated, using the same method as the signed report, so you can decide whether the full review is worth it. The signed report is read and edited by a designer before you get it.

What if I disagree with a finding?

Tell us. Reviews are judgment, and good judgment can be argued with. If a finding is wrong for your audience, it comes out and the score is updated.

Will my review be published?

Only if you say yes. Some owners like the public teardown because it brings traffic; most don't, and that's fine.

What does "fix the top five" include?

The five highest-ranked findings from your report, changed on your live site within your current platform and theme: copy, layout, type, colour, spacing, images, speed basics. It is not a redesign and it doesn't move you to a new platform. The scope is agreed in writing before any work starts, and the page is re-scored afterwards.

How long does the signed report take?

One working day. Fixed-for-you work takes five working days from the day you approve the scope.
